On Instagram, the Frenchman shared a photo of himself wearing the white cloth of Muslims performing umrah and standing in front of the Kaaba, a black cube towards which Muslims turn for their five daily prayers and captioned it “Most beautiful thing I’ve seen in my life.”
He also sent a tweet wishing all Muslims a Happy Ramadan.
On May 22, a suicide bomber at Manchester Arena killed 22 people during Ariana Grande‘s concert.
Two days later, Pogba scored one of the two goals which helped Manchester United to a 2-0 victory over Ajax in the Europa League final.
“We played for the people who died,” Pogba told BT Sport after the triumph.
The 24-year-old became the most expensive footballer in history last summer after Manchester United paid Juventus a reported £89m ($114m) fee.
Sources at the World Football’s governing body reports that FIFA will investigate the transfer this month.
Pogba is reported to have visited Mecca at least once before when he performed the Hajj, a journey every healthy adult Muslim who can afford it is supposed to make at least once in their lives.
Mecca is believed to be the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad, and no non-Muslim is allowed to enter.
