Watch Donald Trump Get Rushed Off Stage At Nevada Campaign Rally During 'Assassination Attempt'

Last night, Donald Trump was in Reno, Nevada holding a campaign rally when an altercation in front of the stage resulted in the Secret Service rushing the candidate away for his own safety.

But what some people in his camp termed as an "assassination attempt" in the melee was far from it — and actually turned out to be an anti-Trump Republican holding up a sign before getting attacked and hauled away.

At some point during the rally, with Trump speaking to those in attendance in Reno, an unnamed rally goer reportedly yelled "gun" — or something to that effect — right down in front of the stage, and chaos broke out.

Watch video...
Watch it happen on video, with Trump being rushed away be Secret Service agents, below:

From The Donald's perspective, that looks pretty scary — and yet from the crowd's perspective, now that the actual facts are in place, we know things were decidedly less dangerous.

It turns out that the man hauled away after the altercation, Austin Crites, had no weapon and was merely a Republican who was holding an anti-Trump sign.

He told media members later in the evening about the incident, after the Secret Service had released him:

"All of a sudden, because they couldn't grab the sign, or whatever happened, bam, I get tackled by all these people. And somebody yells something about a gun, and so that's when things really got out of hand."

Talk about Trump's tolerant voters…

As far as the person who apparently yelled "gun," it does not appear they were apprehended or even identified after the incident.

Trump was back on stage within minutes, and his campaign seized on the moment in Twitter posts and more, with Dan Scavino, the campaign's social media director, re-tweeting a tweet calling the incident an "assassination attempt" (below):
Uhh… except it wasn't.

Trump himself released a statement about the incident later in the night, which can be read in full (below):

"I would like to thank the United States Secret Service and the law enforcement resources in Reno and the state of Nevada for their fast and professional response. I also want to thank the many thousands of people present for their unwavering and unbelievable support. Nothing will stop us - we will make America great again!"

Well then.

So, not an assassination attempt, to be sure — but also not a good thing for anybody involved.

Two more days until this election is over, everybody — PLAY NICE!!!
