Akwa Ibom set for state creation, Independence anniversaries


The Akwa Ibom State Government yesterday said it has lined up a number of activities to celebrate the 29th anniversary of the state’s creation and the 56th Independence anniversary of Nigeria.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communications and Chairman of the Publicity Committee for the celebration, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, said Governor Udom Emmanuel will tomorrow hold a parley with reporters at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Uyo, the state capital.

Umanah said the governor would participate in the first anniversary celebration of the Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Programme of his wife, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel.

The commissioner said the governor would inaugurate a number of projects on September 22. These include the 19.3 kilometre Anua-Mbak-Ishiet Road; construction of Ikpe Ikot Nkon-Obotme-Arochukwu Road and the construction of 17.4 kilometre Odoro Ikpe-Mbiatbet Ikpe-Mbiabet Ikot Udo Road with 30 metre Span Bridge.

He said Emmanuel will swear in the paramount rulers on September 23 at 10 a.m, “before proceeding to the Uyo Township Stadium for the grand celebration of the 29th anniversary of the creation of Akwa Ibom State and the first anniversary of Dakkada Philosophy, with the theme: From Glory to Glory.”

Umanah added that a cocktail party will hold at the Banquet Hall of the Government House at 7 p.m.
